I just finished reading Wolf's Haven (Caedmon Wolves Book 1). It's the first book I've read from Ambriella Kirk and Amber Ella Monroe, I was hooked from the get go!
After jumping from the museums third story window to escape Brad , Tamara comes face to face with an emerald eyed wolf, who takes her to safety. Tamara is desperately trying to escape the verbal and physical abusive relationship she's in with Brad, she knows if she doesn't succeed she may lose her life. Devin a wolf shifter is worried about the majestic beauty he rescued from the museum who still slept on his bed, his wolf has a strong urge to protect her.
When Tamara awoke in a cabin with a man who had the same mysterious emerald wolf eyes.
They're both running from their pasts, neither wants to get into a relationship. Tamera because of trust issues from being abused and Devin because he knows hearts can be broken.
There is unrest in the Caedmon wolf pack because there is no true alpha, there are rumors the last two were murdered so his cousin can become the pack leader. Will Devin rise up to the occasion and lead his? How will Tamara handle being around the pack, will she even want to? Will they jump in and try to get over their relationship issues together? I love werewolf stories. This one is okay I like it but I don't love it. Yes this is short and we already know its going to be missing something or could have been written better. I liked the beginning but I wasn't too fond of certain parts. I have read better stories. I understand this isn't a full length novel but there isn't any excuse. Everything all felt rushed. The pace was all wrong. I doubt any love that is generated within only a matter of weeks of merely having sex and then bam the characters are in love after rounds of endless heated sex. With the female being a victim of D.V. I just don't get how she was so quick to trust a wolf of all things and is bumping and grinding like a porn star so soon. Any time its a character that has been abused I just feel like they shouldn't be so quick to have sex with someone in weeks. In my mind I start screaming Unrealistic, Can't Process, Error. I don't know perhaps there are victims who act like that I don't know but it didn't work for me but overall the author did an interesting job. I read the preview of the book that was in the back of this book and it caught my attention I like where it was going but I will have to heavily think about it because this book was simple just okay something to read in passing or when you really have nothing better to do.
I completely loved the characters. Tamara is not a typical butt kicking female in most stories these days. Instead she has an inner strength that is far more difficult to come by. Despite her past she remains a kind soul. Devin actually seems the weaker of the two emotionally running from a life he doesnt think he deserves. Together they seem to fill in what the other lacks making them truly whole. I completely loved that about this story.
My only complaint is I wish there was more to it. It seemed to end rather prematurely leaving me wondering 'what now....'. It is a series though so hopefully the questions I have will be answered. All in all it was a great start to a series and I am looking forward to more.
Devin had been running from his pack duties for a long time, but that reasoning changed after he became drawn to a female in need. Tamara had been living with an abusive fiance with no hope in sight to escape, until the day that her friend Selene offered her help. Little did she know that it would lead her to someone special.
This book really covered a lot of how a victim of abuse thinks and acts. Emotionally it takes a toll on that victim along with the physical acts of it. I wish that the author would have provided a link or a number to an abuse action hotline. Especially since that was one of the main topics of this book.
This is the second book in the Caedmon Wolves series I have read (the first was book 7, Wolf's Temptation). I find it funny that it just so happens that the first two I read, completely out of chronological order, feature Daniel's two surviving sons. Reading this book also gave me a great sense of how many years had passed between book 1 and book 7. In book 7, Dawson is in his mid-twenties whereas here he's still only 17. Devin and Tamara make a for a cute couple. Both suffered via the actions of a loved one in the past (Tamara with her abusive fiancé and Devin having been banished by his father and looked upon with disgust by his entire pack). They found salvation in each other (even though he wasn't looking for it and she was looking for a different kind). It's a sweet romance with some steamy sex thrown in. While Devin mentions how Tamara gave him additional power and confidence (literally), I think what she did for him went beyond the physical/superficial sense of those things. I think it was because of her that he was able to open his heart to others in the pack and step up in the role he never wanted and never thought he was right for. Devin and Tamara only serve to make the other stronger, physically, psychologically, and emotionally. The story concludes with a satisfying, HEA ending and does not have a cliffhanger. I think this is a good book for someone who enjoys shifter (or PNR) novels (particularly wolf shifter ones) as well as someone who hasn't had much of a taste of PNR (and shifters specifically). Overall, an enjoyable book. I will definitely be continuing with the series!
